Playful yogis, co-founders of Learn To Play,
and changemakers for children in Africa.
At Learn To Play, we believe in the power of
play to transform lives. Yet, we’ve seen
firsthand how play isn’t accessible to many
families across our beautiful but sometimes
broken continent.
I’m proud to live, work, and raise my family in
beautiful Botswana. As a mum, I feel empowered
knowing that 90% of a child’s brain develops before
the age of five. As an educator, I was devastated to
learn that three out of four children in Africa miss out
on early learning opportunities."

This realisation lit a fire in us: to relentlessly
pursue a mission to change the trajectory of
children’s lives for future generations. Rooted
in the wisdom of African communities and
inspired by the universal magic of play, our
journey has been one of hope, action, and
impact.
Today, 73% of children in our playgroups are
meeting developmental milestones, with 20%
exceeding them—proof that our model works.
But the transformation goes beyond the
children. Our strategy taps into an abundant,
often overlooked resource: Mothers.
Through our Maatla Mamas (Strong Mothers)
initiative, women are trained as early
childhood educators to lead playgroups in
their communities. And the results speak for
themselves: all 41 Maatla Mamas have been
uplifted out of poverty, becoming pillars of
change in their families and neighbourhoods.
