21 Feb Introducing Kavimba
During the course of 2018, news of our success spread across communities and we were approached by the Village Development Committee (VDC) in a village called Kavimba, further north of Kasane, to implement a Playgroup in their community.
The Health Clinic & VDC have taken ownership for this programme by establishing an early childhood committee, comprised entirely of volunteers in the community such as health workers, nurses, child protection officers, teachers, the school principal and others. The Peace Corps volunteer attached to Kavimba has been pivotal in putting the group together.
In December 2018, we received funding to train 7 new Mamapreneurs from Kavimba. They were in Gaborone for 2 weeks of intensive early childhood development training and have recently launched their playgroups in Kavimba.
The community playgroup has received unwavering support from the Kavimba Primary School, the Dikgosi, Kasane S&CD and social services. Other government agencies & NGOs in the area have come on board, such as a little day care and the Post Office, to support our implementation of IGT Playgroups in Kavimba.
