21 Feb A Visit From Aluwani
Tom David and Warren Handley are two young men from Cape Town, South Africa, who walked over 6000km from Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Having volunteered at Aluwani, Tom and Warren were able to get firsthand experience of the hardships that orphaned and vulnerable children endure. While they acknowledge that they do not fully understand the challenges of poverty, they have also seen that with a little generosity, organisations like LKCT, REWA and Aluwani are able to empower communities with skills that allow them to care for the children of those communities, and lead sustainable lives.
Tom and Warren’s mission over their 6000km has been to raise significant funds and awareness for children in the early stages of their development by conducting Early Childhood Development workshops in villages, towns and cities across Africa as they walk down.
On 30th – 31st August Tom and Warren facilitated a workshop for for 30 Mamapreneurs from our first three pilot communities (Bontleng, Gopong and Gambodubu). The aim of this workshop was to introduce key concepts of Early Childhood Development as well as to emphasize the Power of Play to the Mamapreneurs and their communities. The highlight of the workshop was a hands-on session showing the Mamapreneurs how to make ECD resources from recyclable materials and waste.
